Self-Care Saturdays are virtual and face to face sessions to engage people in wellness activities to reduce feelings of stress, manage mental illnesses and promote social connectedness. For each event, we partner with various zumba, yoga and other fitness instructors to provide engaging content for the community to practice mental wellness strategies at home and access behavioral health resources.

According to the National Institutes of Health, aerobic exercise and other forms of movement are linked to a reduction in depression and anxiety. Getting your body moving and engaging in exercise comes with a series of other health benefits. While your mental health certainly reaps advantages, so does your emotional health and physical health. As you can imagine, different types of health are inherently tethered to one another. This means that your emotional and physical health can impact your mental health and vice versa. For these reasons, getting regular exercise can only help you.

While other organizations may educate communities on effective mental wellness strategies, Silence the Shame is unique by offering a consistent calendar or events promoting the power of movement and nature as protective strategies for mental wellbeing and to reduce the symptoms of mental illness. Get people moving and adventuring more to start living not just surviving, movement that inspires them and brings them hope.
