Community Conversations

Silence the Shame Community Conversations are curated panel discussions that create a safe environment to discuss mental health. Founder Shanti Das typically moderates the discussion and we include licensed mental health professionals and those with lived experiences. As a result of this global pandemic, Silence the Shame has been hosting free webinars on Zoom to provide healthy ways to cope during the quarantine. Check out some past webinars below:

  • Faith and Community Based Capacity and Recovery Initiative with DBHDD

Faith and community leaders are essential in these conversations as they are often the first place that individuals and families reach out to when they experience challenges, behavioral health issues, and/or traumatic events. The workshops included various leaders from Faith-Based organizations, churches, and communities throughout the state of Georgia. 2017- 2018

  • Community Conversations with Aids Healthcare Foundation

Curated conversations with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in 2019 that addressed the double stigma around mental health and HIV in the Black community. Community Conversations occurred in Atlanta, Cleveland, Baton Rouge, and Chicago.

  • Teen Mental Health Forums

Our first Teen Mental Heath Forum was in 2016 through our partnership with Jack and Jill of America Foundation and included discussions with licensed mental health professionals, mental health advocates, and people with lived experiences. After the panel, teens get to engage in breakout discussions. Mental Health Forums occurred in Atlanta, Washington, D.C, Brooklyn, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles.
